Omrop Fryslân is an NPO broadcaster serving the Frisian community. Because West Frisian is an official language of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the NPO is also responsible for West Frisian language broadcasts.Omrop Fryslân is also the regional public broadcaster for the province of Friesland, and they have their own radio station and TV channel broadcasting mainly to the province itself.Since 1994, Omrop Fryslân has had its own regional television channel. The regional news bulletin called Fryslân Hjoed (which stands for Friesland Today) is broadcast daily at 6:00 pm and repeated hourly, with the last rebroadcast the next morning at 8:00 am.The TV Omrop Fryslân can be received in open signal in DVB-T (Digitenne). It is also available on cable (analog and digital), satellite and internet.In addition, as West Frisian is an official language in the Netherlands, Omrop Fryslân has 36 hours of airtime per year on national public television. Of these 36 hours, 15 hours are intended for West Frisian school television. The remaining airtime is mainly used for documentaries, which are broadcast on NPO 2 on Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons.
