Hír TV is Hungary's first thematic news and news background television. Billed as "an instrument of civic publicity", the channel has been broadcasting 24 hours a day since 2 January 2003. The founders' aim was to establish a television genre and standard similar to that of the great international news channels (CNN, SkyNews and BBC), and to create a channel of its own for the right-wing, conservative ideological-political side.
The primary mission of Hír TV is to provide viewers with the broad range of information they need to make everyday decisions in a credible and accessible way. We don't adapt the news to the programme, but the programme adapts to the most topical news, high-profile events and the needs of our viewers: we report on unexpected events even when they are interrupted - by breaking news announcements.
The channel broadcasts 24 hours a day. The programme schedule consists mainly of hourly news/news bulletins and complementary news/news background programmes, but the channel also focuses on public life, lifestyle, sport and culture. Major events are often broadcast live as breaking news, interrupting the programme.
