TVN – Televisión Nacional de Chile is the public television service of Chile and one of the country’s most important media institutions. It was founded by presidential decree under President Eduardo Frei Montalva and began its nationwide broadcasts on October 24, 1969. Since its creation, TVN has operated as a state-owned company, undergoing several reorganizations as its mission, structure, and range of services expanded over the years. TVN operates a main free-to-air national channel that reaches audiences across Chile. Through satellite transmission and an extensive network of repeaters located throughout the continental territory, islands, and even Antarctic Chile, the channel achieves coverage of approximately 98% of the country’s population. This broad reach ensures access to public television for citizens in both urban and remote areas. In addition to its main signal, TVN manages nine regional channels with their own production centers, promoting local content and regional identity. The network also operates TV Chile, its international signal, the 24 Horas news channel, and several internet-based thematic channels, including TVN Kids, TVN Música, TVN de Culto, and 24Play. With its strong public service mission and digital expansion, audiences can stay informed and, when available, watch live tv stream content across multiple platforms.
