Africanews ist das erste mehrsprachige panafrikanische Medium - produziert von und für Afrikaner. Informationen über und aus Afrika werden eine neue Stimme bekommen: Africanews, ein kontinuierlicher Nachrichtensender mit Sitz in Pointe Noire in der Republik Kongo. Es ist das erste panafrikanische, mehrsprachige und unabhängige Nachrichtenmedium, das seine Programme auf Englisch und Französisch in 33 Ländern südlich der Sahara ausstrahlt. Der neue Sender ist eine Tochtergesellschaft von Euronews - einer Gruppe, die sich seit 2015 im Besitz des ägyptischen Milliardärs Naguib Sawiris befindet - und hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, "Afrika anhand von Fakten zu erzählen und dabei Kommentare, Vorurteile oder vorgefasste Meinungen zu vermeiden". Africanews wurde im Januar online gestartet. Jetzt wird es über Satellit und digital sowie über lokale Fernsehsender ausgestrahlt. In den ersten sechs Monaten wird der Sender frei empfangbar sein und den Besitzern von Satellitenschüsseln kostenlos zur Verfügung gestellt, danach wird er ein verschlüsseltes Signal verwenden. Diese Entscheidung wurde aus wirtschaftlichen Gründen getroffen, könnte aber die Wirkung und Sichtbarkeit von Africanews einschränken, da sich die meisten Zuschauer kein Fernsehen leisten können. Die Redaktion besteht aus 85 Mitarbeitern aus 15 afrikanischen Ländern und mehr als 40 Korrespondenten.
