Africanews to pierwsze wielojęzyczne panfrykańskie media - tworzone przez Afrykańczyków i dla Afrykańczyków. Informacje o Afryce i z Afryki będą miały nowy głos: Africanews, ciągły kanał informacyjny z siedzibą w Pointe Noire, Republika Konga. Jest to pierwsze panafrykańskie, wielojęzyczne i niezależne medium informacyjne, nadające swoje programy w języku angielskim i francuskim w 33 krajach subsaharyjskich. Nowy nadawca jest spółką zależną Euronews - grupy, której właścicielem od 2015 roku jest egipski miliarder Naguib Sawiris - i stawia sobie za cel "opowiadanie o Afryce poprzez fakty, unikając komentarzy, uprzedzeń czy z góry przyjętych idei". Africanews został uruchomiony online w styczniu. Teraz jest nadawany za pośrednictwem satelity i cyfrowo, a także przez lokalnych nadawców. Przez pierwsze sześć miesięcy będzie nadawany w systemie free-to-air i oferowany bezpłatnie posiadaczom anten satelitarnych, a następnie będzie wykorzystywał sygnał kodowany. Wybór ten był podyktowany potrzebami ekonomicznymi, ale może ograniczyć wpływ i widoczność Africanews, ponieważ większości widzów nie stać na telewizję. Redakcja liczy 85 osób z 15 krajów afrykańskich i ponad 40 korespondentów.
