Africanews es el primer medio de comunicación panafricano multilingüe, producido por y para africanos. La información sobre y desde África tendrá una nueva voz: Africanews, un canal de noticias continuo con sede en Pointe Noire, República del Congo. Es el primer medio de comunicación panafricano, multilingüe e independiente, que emite sus programas en inglés y francés en 33 países subsaharianos. La nueva emisora es una filial de Euronews -grupo propiedad del multimillonario egipcio Naguib Sawiris desde 2015- y se compromete a "contar África a través de los hechos, evitando comentarios, prejuicios o ideas preconcebidas". Africanews se lanzó en línea en enero. Ahora se emite vía satélite y digital, así como en emisoras locales. Se emitirá en abierto y se ofrecerá gratuitamente a los propietarios de antenas parabólicas durante los seis primeros meses, pero después utilizará una señal codificada. Esta elección está motivada por necesidades económicas, pero podría limitar el impacto y la visibilidad de Africanews porque la mayoría de los espectadores no pueden permitirse la televisión. La redacción cuenta con 85 personas de 15 países africanos y más de 40 corresponsales.
