Africanews is de eerste meertalige pan-Afrikaanse media - geproduceerd door en voor Afrikanen. Informatie over en uit Afrika zal een nieuwe stem krijgen: Africanews, een doorlopend nieuwskanaal gevestigd in Pointe Noire, Republiek Congo. Het is de eerste pan-Afrikaanse, meertalige en onafhankelijke nieuwszender die zijn programma's in het Engels en Frans uitzendt in 33 landen ten zuiden van de Sahara. De nieuwe omroep is een dochteronderneming van Euronews - een groep die sinds 2015 eigendom is van de Egyptische miljardair Naguib Sawiris - en streeft ernaar "Afrika te vertellen aan de hand van de feiten, zonder commentaar, vooroordelen of vooropgezette ideeën". Africanews werd in januari online gelanceerd. Nu wordt het uitgezonden via satelliet en digitaal, evenals via lokale omroepen. Het zal free-to-air worden uitgezonden en de eerste zes maanden gratis worden aangeboden aan eigenaars van een satellietschotel, maar daarna zal een gecodeerd signaal worden gebruikt. Deze keuze werd ingegeven door economische behoeften, maar zou de impact en de zichtbaarheid van Africanews kunnen beperken omdat de meeste kijkers zich geen televisie kunnen veroorloven. De redactie telt 85 personen uit 15 Afrikaanse landen en meer dan 40 correspondenten.
