Это первое панафриканское, многоязычное и независимое новостное СМИ, транслирующее свои программы на английском и французском языках в 33 странах южнее Сахары. Новый вещатель является дочерней компанией Euronews - группы, с 2015 года принадлежащей египетскому миллиардеру Нагибу Савирису, - и стремится "рассказывать об Африке через факты, избегая комментариев, предрассудков и предвзятых мнений". Africanews был запущен онлайн в январе. Сейчас он транслируется через спутниковые и цифровые каналы, а также через местные вещательные компании. Первые шесть месяцев он будет транслироваться бесплатно для владельцев спутниковых антенн, но затем будет использовать зашифрованный сигнал.
